It all began 150 years ago when Johan Kahr started a small turning shop at Nybro, Sweden for producing wooden articles for local farmers. Today the Kahrs group is Europe’s largest wood flooring manufacturer. Kahrs is available in 7mm, 10mm, 15mm and 20mm thickness in a variety of shades and finishes which includes Jatoba, Jarrah, Oak, Merbau, Walnut, Maple, Wenge, Cherry, Teak, Ash, Sapelli, etc.

Kahrs have many firsts to its credit –

Were the first to have developed multi layer wood floor which today are called Engineered Wood Floors way back in 1940.

During the year 2000, Glueless Wood Floors with woodloc system was launched. Today Woodloc is the most advanced interlocking system in the market.

Kahrs were the first to offer a factory applied finish to timber floors.

Were the first manufacturer to receive quality and environmental certification.

Kahrs use timber only from the managed forests to produce floors and it contains few chemical compounds and virtually no harmful chemical emissions. Wood is a natural material and is affected by changes of climate. In order to minimize the movement and to obtain the right balance between the different layers in each board,Kahrs has done a great deal of research so that floor stays fully stable in all climates.

Floor Boards are constructed in 3 layers in order to contain expansion and contraction within the floorboard. The top layer is made of hardwood that allows resanding and refinishing. The surface is prefinished with several layers of UV hardened acrylic lacquer free from solvents. The boards are delivered free of insects, woodworms etc. This is secured by the process temperature. It confirms to Class G which is the highest fire classification for floors as per Swedish Building Code BBR 94.

The latest to be added to Kahrs product list is Activity Floor/Sports Floor. It doesn’t need a frame as in the case of the conventional sports flooring. It can be installed quickly and over large areas. The floor is approved for global standard for sports floors and used at major sporting events.
